Wind Generators - Overview

Free energy for a sustainable future

As Britain lies at the fringe of Europe, with large areas exposed to the prevailing westerly winds, wind energy can provide many people with the opportunity to generate electricity for their own consumption, thereby saving money and reducing dependency upon the national grid.

The electricity generated by wind turbines can be used to charge batteries for use when required or fed directly into the electricity supply system. Even the smallest micro turbines can make a contribution to sustainable energy and lower carbon emissions.

The high quality turbines supplied by WDS Environmental from Samrey are extremely robust and are designed to operate under varying weather conditions from low wind speed to gale force conditions.

All wind turbines need to be sited carefully to ensure their blades are exposed directly to the wind; obstructions from trees or building will reduce efficiency. The most appropriate sites are exposed areas where the wind has a clear flow onto the blades.

The smallest turbine, the Wren, can be building-mounted, but the larger Mistral and Merlin turbines require their own guyed or self supporting tower as wind forces on the turbine blades can induce structural damage under severe weather conditions. The Wren Extreme is designed for marine use and can be mounted on the mizen mast or stern rail of a yacht.
